Morbius delayed by coronavirus: new release date for 2021


Sony Pictures and Marvel confirm the delay of the premiere of their new Spiderverse movie originally scheduled for this August.

Sony Pictures has announced that Morbius, the new movie of its Spiderverse alongside Marvel, is delayed until March 19, 2021 due to the global coronavirus crisis. Thus, and as many production companies are doing with their upcoming releases, the new film adaptation of the vampiric antihero of the Spider-Man universe is going to next year, thus leaving its premiere scheduled for July 30 in the United States and 7 of August in Spain.

Bad news for Marvel fans who were expecting to see, finally and after a long time of uncertainty, this summer the new feature film starring Jared Leto in the role of Morbius, a movie that also featured connections to the Spider movies in its first trailer -Man of the UCM. Although Morbius was not the only film delayed by Sony Pictures; So much so, that Ghostbusters Afterlife, the expected return of the Ghostbusters, goes from July 10, 2020 to March 5, 2021, the date on which the adaptation of Uncharted with Tom Holland was due to be released, which in turn is delayed until on October 8, 2021, again, another date reserved for one of next year's Marvel releases.

A dance of dates that is affecting numerous Hollywood productions that see their releases being postponed before the uncertainty caused by the coronavirus pandemic. We will see if Sony Pictures finally delays Venom 2, the sequel to the Spiderverse symbiote scheduled for next October. Recall that Black Widow, The New Mutants or the new installments of James Bond and Fast & Furious, among many other films, have also been delayed by the closing of movie theaters around the world.
